Drinian Press
about Drinian Press
Drinian Press was founded in 2006 by writers for writers. It grew out
of the realization that there are more closed doors than open ones for
many serious writers seeking publication. Traditional publishing
houses cannot afford the risk of printing new titles by unknown
authors. Some literary presses favor "edgy" writing that has little
following among readers in the real world. By printing for the
short-run and POD markets, Drinian Press offers authors the
satisfaction of seeing their work in print, and affords them the
opportunity to attract readers. (We offer a simple contract and do not
charge our writers any fees for publication.)
At present, four different authors publish books through Drinian
Press. Each book has passed through the scrutiny of a three person
editorial board. Our chief interest is the quality of the story and
movement of the characters through events that engage the reader
in the drama. As a result, we are open to submissions from authors
who appreciate compelling stories, and are willing to participate in a
community of writers who feel the same way.
We will not publish books that glamorize violence, ethnic hatred, and
the like. We will not publish anything considered obscene by our
editors. We are interested in writing that captures timeless themes
and not just the current rant. For the most part, we value complete
sentences. Though popular in some settings, sequences of
descriptive clauses functioning grammatically as misplaced modifiers
do not fly at Drinian Press. While the rules of grammar can
sometimes be stretched effectively by a creative writer, we do not
confuse poor writing with creativity. If you are a writer who shares
these sympathies and accepts small press limitations, you are
welcome to make a submission.
